Our School

Sherard is a co-educational day school for primary children aged 5-11 years. In addition, the Special Needs Unit offers fully integrated specialist provision for a number of children with moderate learning difficulties.

The school is attractively situated on a large campus shared with King Edward VII Upper School including Sarson Centre and Birch Wood Special School. Effective working links between the three schools are already well established.

The school buildings are light, spacious and well maintained.
Each class group has its own classroom, with shared cloakroom facilities and access to shared open areas and resource bases.

Educational facilities are extensive, including two large halls, a central library area, a separate performance studio for dance, drama and music and computer areas for Information and Communications technology. The school is well equipped to provide access to a range of computing facilities for children of all ages.

Sports activities are well catered for with extensive playing fields and hard play areas. Swimming instruction is based at the local Waterfield Baths.

The school has well equipped play areas and a shaded wild garden.
The school grounds also provide a rich focus for environmental activities. The children also use the town and its facilities for local study work. In addition visits are arranged to local places of interest, museums, study centres and exhibitions.

Handwriting

This is a copy of the cursive handwriting which is taught in our school. As a fully cursive script ( all lowercase letters are joined), it is a more fluent style of writing. All lowercase letters begin on the line, making it easier for your child to write confidently using lines.
